Global Youth Service Day

Miami Valley Global Youth Service Day

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual international event that highlights and celebrates the contributions of youth (ages 5-25) to their communities through volunteerism.  During GYSD, youth in 100 countries will organize and participate in community service projects to address local needs.  The next Global Youth Service Day will be held on April 23-24, 2010.

The goals of GYSD are to mobilize youth as leaders to identify and address the needs of our community through service and learning, support youth on a lifelong path of service and civic engagement, and educate the public, the media, and policymakers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.

United Way of the Greater Dayton Area’s Volunteer Connection is partnering with Youth Service America as a Lead Agency to coordinate the first GYSD to impact our region.  The vision is to provide an opportunity for every student in the area to participate in a meaningful community service project to foster a sense of civic responsibility and pride. The Miami Valley GYSD will consist of two service days (April 23-24, 2010) where students will have the opportunity to come together and serve in order to improve our community.  On Saturday evening, April 24, 2010, we will have a “Closing Ceremony” to showcase the projects completed by the youth.
