National 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Comes to Dayton

September 7, 2011, Dayton, Ohio - This Friday, September 9th, hundreds of volunteers from local companies and throughout the community will participate in the 9/11 National Day of Service.  They will be doing projects for nonprofits throughout the greater Dayton area.
 
The mission of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance ("9/11 Day") is to provide a positive and forward-looking way for Americans and others to forever honor and remember the 9/11 victims, survivors, and the many that rose in service in response to the 9/11 tragedy. This year, for the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, MyGoodDeed is partnering with HandsOn Network to co-lead efforts to organize the single largest day of charitable service in United States history. United Way of the Greater Dayton Area's Volunteer Connection is serving as the local coordinator of volunteers and projects.
 
Nearly 300 local volunteers from The Berry Company, Cemex, Hilton Garden Inn, PNC, Wilberforce University, and the community will join millions of others around the world to observe the anniversary of 9/11 by performing good deeds, supporting charitable causes, volunteering and engaging in other acts of compassion.  Host agencies include Aullwood  Audubon Center & Farm, Catholic Social Services, Choices in Community Life, Community Blood Center /Community Tissue Services, Daybreak, Dayton Christian Center, Dayton Habitat for Humanity, Dayton History, Good Neighbor House, Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley Greene County Family Visitation Center,  Life Enrichment Center, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region, United Rehabilitation Services, St. Leonard, Salem Avenue Business Association, and United Way of the Greater Dayton Area.
 
9/11 National Day of Service is one of 5 community-wide volunteer service days organized by United Way of the Greater Dayton Area's Volunteer Connection.  This is the first year they have organized local participation in National Day of Service.
