County Launches 2005 United Way Campaign
Montgomery
County's employees will be asked to participate in the 2005 United
Way Campaign this week. The County's annual United Way Kick-off
will be held on September 1, 2005 at the Parking Lot next to the
Administration Building on Vista View and West Third Street. “This
is a great event, we ask elected officials and county departments
to host bake sales, carnival games, raffles and even a garage sale
in order to raise funds for the United Way ,” commented 2005 Montgomery
County United Way Chair, Dan Foley.
Each
year, the kick-off is a lunchtime event that raises approximately
$2,000 for the United Way of Greater Dayton. In addition to a dunking
tank and book sale, County employees can attend the event, purchase
lunch and socialize with friends as they peruse the tables, games
and sales. “Montgomery County has a great history of contributing
to the United Way. We are proud that our annual contributions make
significant changes to people's lives,” continued Foley.
Donations made
to the United Way of Greater Dayton helped thousands of local residents
last year. For example, funding helped 2,614 children attend an early
childhood development daycare program so their parents could work
or go to school, 3.3 million pounds of food were distributed among
local food pantries, and 7,930 adults and adolescents gained job skills
to increase their self-sufficiency. The United Way also helped 1,307
clients received legal assistance to deal with crises such as family
violence or home foreclosure, and 5.649 senior citizens maintained
their independence through mobile meals and senior meal sites, rides
to medical appointments and other assistance services
