Neighbors
Helping Neighbors
Monday,
September 8, 2003 – More than 500 volunteers will be lending
a hand to local nonprofit agencies in Montgomery, Greene and Preble
Counties on Tuesday, September 9 , as part of United
Way of the Greater Dayton Area's Community Care Day and KeyBank's
Neighbors Make the Difference Day. United Way and KeyBank have partnered
locally in order to help a greater number of our neighbors in need.
“Community
Care Day brings together employees from companies all over the community
to see first-hand their United Way donations at work and give our
agencies some much needed help,” said Marc Levy, President of United
Way of the Greater Dayton Area. Levy noted that United Way chose
to pilot Community Care Day for the kickoff event for two reasons.
“It demonstrates for the entire community that we can do more together
than we can alone, which is the spirit and value of your United
Way. It also demonstrates in a tangible manner that United Way is
about mobilizing human as well as financial resources on behalf
of the network of services in our community.”
The
day will begin at Eastwood Metro Park at 7:30 a.m .
with a complimentary breakfast for United Way volunteers and supporters,
hosted by Community Care Day sponsor GE Card Services. Pete Luongo
, 2003 Campaign Chairman and retired President and CEO of the Berry
Company, will announce the goal of $13,000,001 and recognize the
Pacesetter Companies who ran early successful employee campaigns.
From
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. volunteers will be working throughout the
three-county area helping agencies and elderly community members
who don't have the resources to complete projects such as painting
and landscaping. For example, volunteers will be helping an independent
senior complete some much needed painting and landscaping at 230
Strand Avenue.
