What (and when) is Community Care Day?

Community Care Day is a United Way sponsored event connecting local volunteers to community service projects through Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties.  Volunteers provde the manpower and elbow grease to complete projects for agencies and clients who lack the resources to complete them on their own. Community Care Day is held annually on the frist Friday in June. This year, it will be held on June 1, 2007.

    

Where do the volunteers for Community Care Day come from?

Volunteers will primarily come from corporate groups and local companies.  Other volunteers may include churches, school groups, community groups and individual unaffiliated volunteers.

   

Why should my organization participate in Community Care Day?

Did you know that 98% of adults said that volunteerism is somewhat important to them, and 71% said that volunteerism was very important. Community Care Day is a great team-building activity for local companies and organizations.  Employees get the opportunity to bond and work together in a different environment and leave feeling good about themselves, their co-workers and their employer. Also, your employees will see first-hand how their United Way donations are changing lives within the Greater Dayton Area.  The event increases a sense of community pride and encourages the spirit of volunteerism.  It is a great tool for showing your organization's support of community-wide initiatives.

   

What is the time commitment required?

Projects are available from 8:00 a.m. -- Noon, Noon -- 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m.

  

What projects will be worked on for Community Care Day?

Projects will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.  They may include painting, landscaping, cleaning, community clean-up, light construction, sorting/organizing items such as toys, books, etc., and spending time with agency clients.

     

Will Community Care Day projects be worked if it rains on June 1?
Yes.  All project sites are prepared to work with volunteers regardless of the weather.  
   

Does my team have to be highly skilled to participate?

Projects will be available for volunteers of all skill levels.  Please indicate the skills you may want to use when you sign up to particpate.

  

Are there any "family-friendly" Community Care Day projects?

Projects will be available for volunteers of all ages.  Please indicate the age range of your volunteer group when you sign up to particpate.

    

Can I work on my project on the following Saturday?

A limited number of volunteer projects may be available on June 2, 2007.  A comprehensive list of volunteer projects available at other times may be viewed at www.volunteerdayton.org.

   

Does this qualify as my volunteer hours at my company?

Community Care Day is a great time to take advantage of approved volunteer days through your employer.

  

What should I wear on Community Care Day?
Dress appropriately for the weather, and be certain to wear close-toed shoes.  Volunteers who sign up before May 4, 2007 will receive free Community Care Day T-shirts.      
   

Is this the same thing as "Day of Caring?"

No.  Day of Caring is an annual event sponsored by another organization in our community.
